This listing is for a set of small handmade paper Medicine Buddha prayer flags from Nepal. There are 25 paper prayer flags each measuring 4 inches by 4 inches. These flags contain 5 colors, yellow, green, red, white, and blue and are adorned in gold with Medicine Buddha designs and prayers. Nepali lokta paper is prepared with the age old techniques of traditional Nepalese artistry. It is made from the bark of the daphne cannabina bush, which grows naturally in the Himalayas at altitudes of 6500 to 9500 feet. After harvesting, the daphne cannabina bush naturally regenerates, reaching full maturity again in six to seven years.
Prayer flags are hung both inside and outdoors on roof tops or the tops of mountains so that when the wind blows the prayers are released into the universe creating a warm environment. In Tibet, Nepal or India, you can see prayer flags on the hill tops or on the temples or stupas.
